Tuna Poke
Poke, a beloved Hawaiian dish, traditionally features fresh ahi tuna marinated in a savory blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, and seasonings. While ahi is classic, poke is incredibly versatile and works beautifully with the fresh fish we catch right here in Monterey Bay.
This recipe, courtesy of Real Good Fish, is particularly delicious with local albacore tuna, which is in season during the fall months. It also works wonderfully with yellowtail or jack mackerel. Quick to prepare and bursting with flavor, this dish is perfect as an appetizer or light meal—just cut, mix, chill, and enjoy!
Ingredients
1 lb. tuna steaks
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup green onions, chopped
¼ cup sweet Maui onions or red onions, rinsed in water
2 tsp. sesame oil
1 tsp. fresh ginger, finely grated
2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds
Red chili flakes to taste
Kosher salt to taste
Preparation
1. Cut the tuna into bite-sized cubes.
2. Mix the rest of the ingredients together with the tuna. Refrigerate for 30 min.
