Johnny's Harborside Dungeness Crab Cakes

While crab season is officially over in Monterey, it doesn't mean you can't still find it around town, and prepared deliciously. Johnny's Harborside in Santa Cruz does an amazing crab cake with local dungeness, that tastes amazing, and is easy to recreate for yourself!

Ingredients:

I TB vegetable oil

½ cup diced red bell pepper

½ cup diced onion

I tsp salt & pepper to taste

I lb cooked & pulled Dunginess Crab meat

2 TB mayo

I TB dijon mustard

2 tsp Worcestire

2 tsp old bay seasoning

¼ cup Panko

Instructions:

Heat pan then heat oil

Sautee peppers onion

salt and pepper until just tender

Combine the rest in a bowl and fold in the pepper mix

Lastly, fold in the panko

Form flattened disks and be sure to save/apply a little extra panko for the outer part

Sautee crab cakes until golden brown

If you want to make your own Old Bay seasoning, which really enhances the dish, the recipe is as follows:

2 tsp salt and pepper

I tsp cayenne

I tsp celery seeds & 2 bay leaves (ground together)

I tsp smoked paprika

I tsp dry musatard

¼ tsp allspice

¼ tsp ginger

¼ tsp nutmeg

¼ tsp cardomom

¼ tsp cinnamon
