CARES ACT funding for the Seafood Industry (March 2020)

The March 2020 CARES Act allocated $300 million for U.S. commercial fishery, charterboat, and some aquaculture participants who suffered an economic loss due to COVID-19. On May 7, the Secretary of Commerce announced the state-by-state allocation of this $300 million, which included $18,350,586 for California seafood businesses. On July 22nd, CDFW announced its plan for disbursing the $18 million in CARES Act Relief funding to California's seafood sector. The approved disbursement plan can be found here. Note: The deadline for submitting claim forms was on September 8. Relief checks were issued in the fall and the process is now complete. Read more at: CARES Act Fisheries Relief for California.

Will the fishing industry receive any more funding?

It took a long time to have the “coronabus” bill passed, thanks to the hard work of industry organizations, lobbying groups, and politicians to get more funding for the U.S. seafood industry. Click here for more information.
