Co-hosted by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the California Ocean Protection Council, and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation
August 24, 2022, from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Bay Model Visitor Center - 2100 Bridgewater Blvd, Sausalito, CA
Commercial Dungeness crab fishermen and fishermen involved in other state managed fixed-gear fisheries are invited to participate in a workshop on innovative fishing gear at the Bay Model in Sausalito, CA on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.
The workshop aims to:
· Provide fishermen a hands-on opportunity to explore options and ideas for gear innovations that can potentially be used when the commercial Dungeness crab fishery is otherwise closed due to elevated entanglement risk.
· Bring together fishermen and gear innovators to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and generate feedback that can be used to adapt and refine gear.
· Develop a clear understanding of the next steps related to testing gear innovations during the 2022-23 and future fishing seasons.
If you are a fixed-gear commercial fisherman interested in attending this workshop, please RSVP by August 15, 2022 to the Foundation’s Gear Innovations Manager, Greg Wells, at gwells@marinesanctuary.org. RSVPs are requested to ensure sufficient resources and refreshments are available for all participants. Light breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided. Participation stipends are available for fishermen who attend upon submission of the appropriate forms.
