MBFT Fishing Community Meeting: Fishermen's Market

  • Community Water Front Room 1 Custom Plaza Monterey CA (map)

Fishermen’s markets have gained popularity throughout California as a way to sell fresh and local catch direct to consumers. The shift towards direct marketing was a result of the 2015 Pacific to Plate legislation which allows fishermen to organize a market under a the same regulatory framework as a traditional farmers market.

At MBFT, we have been examining the logistics of such a model and how a market might work in Monterey, IF fishermen chose to organize one. We’d like to share some of the findings, hear your thoughts, and talk about whether a market is even feasible for Monterey.

We hope to discuss topics that include:

  • What would it take to organize a fishermen’s market

  • Are fishermen interested in doing this?

  • Is a fishermen’s market practical?

We are very interested in hearing from you, please join us.
